The Real Question Is Not When, But Are You Ready?

Recently, I heard more than one person say we are living in the end times. Because of current events, they believe Jesus must be coming soon.

But a quick online search will show that many people and organizations have predicted the end before, sometimes even naming specific dates. I remember the fear and speculation around the year 2000, when many believed the world might end then too.

I want to believe most of these predictions were not made with bad motives. Many people probably shared what they sincerely believed. Still, no matter how hard we try, we need to remember we are not God. We only know what He chooses to reveal, and He has not revealed the timing of Judgment Day.

Isaiah reminds us of God’s words: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” His thoughts are higher than ours, especially when it comes to His timing.

Jesus made it clear that the focus should not be on trying to predict the day or look for signs, but on being ready. In the parable of the bridesmaids (Matthew 25:1-13), the problem was not lack of information. The problem was that they were unprepared when the groom arrived. They should have been living ready at all times.

The same is true for us.

Instead of being consumed with whether this is the end, we should ask whether we are ready. Have you accepted Christ? Are you loving God fully? Are you living in submission to Him? Are you loving others the way Jesus taught?

Live like Jesus could come at any moment. Stop letting fear, worry, and distraction keep you focused on whether now is the end.

Reflection: What do you need to start, stop, and continue doing to get ready?

Prayer: Omniscient God. Thank you that scripture tells us your plan. We are grateful for the guidance it gives. But now we need help not to be overwhelmed by what we know will happen someday, but to live like we know IF it happens during our time, we are ready.
