Image with hearts and verse on it from John 10:10 part b. Hearts are also on the scripture.

I often wonder about the word abundant in this scripture. In modern society, we often define abundance financially. Our possessions and level of wealth become a measurement for abundance. Some define abundance by how well things are going in their lives. If a job, a project, children, and parents are without issues, then life is exceptional. Others use disease and condition free bodies as an indicator of abundance.

I believe God's version of abundant living is different from our own. While Christ came to bring eternal life in which there is everlasting abundance with God, He still wants abundant living in our current lives. Therefore, abundant living by His standards is not defined by position, possessions, or power. Our health is not a part of the definition.

Christ defines it as fully walking with Him and daily living according to His purposes. This abundant living is about our behavior and attitude toward God and others. Does this mean we will not have challenges? Nope. It means we have what we need in Jesus to face those challenges.

Abundant living in our current life leads to abundant living in our eternal life with Christ.

Reflection: What is your definition of abundant living? How does it align with God’s view?

Prayer: God, we know how the world defines abundant living. We prefer your version because you give what’s best. At times it may be hard to see the best in our situations, but we are thankful of Your promise to always be with us. Thank you for the abundant living that comes through Your Son Jesus.
